About Annexation Efforts around San Leon.

For many decades the city of Texas City has aggressively gobbled up much of unincorporated Galveston County, Chambers County, even broad swaths of our Galveston Bay !! While cities such as League City, Dickinson and LaMarque have stuck to limited annexing of land to which they truly intend to provide city services to, Texas City has plowed ahead with forced annexation of humongous parcels of land which the city heavily taxes but does not offer any city services to.

A most excellent PDF map can be downloaded at: http://www.sanleon.info/TexasCity_Annexations.pdf .  This is a 10 MB PDF file, and requires a newer computer and/or very powerful smart phone to open.  A great deal of detail can be seen if you work with the native PDF file.

For those who are unable to open the native PDF, the following simple screenshots are provided for your convenience:

The Yellow Color of unincorporated Bacliff & San Leon denotes Extra-Terratorial Jurisdiction ( ETJ ) which is a designated buffer area located just outside of the Texas City city limits. Each municipality is afforded an ETJ by the Texas Local Government Code as a method of defining potential growth and future service boundaries.
As of 2021 the Texas Legislature is wisely considering doing away with ETJ’s in Texas, Texas Public Policy.
